The Well Control School (WCS) has over 35 years of experience as a leading provider of accredited well control training based on the latest industry and federal standards Combining certified, experienced instructors and state-of-the-art, simulated scenarios, WCS delivers first-class training to the global oil and gas industry through instructor-led classes and its proprietary System 21 e-Learning Training.

WCS was founded in 1979 in New Orleans, Louisiana and acquired by RPC, Inc. in 1998. . Since its inception, WCS has been at the forefront of establishing well control standards that prevent well control events and ensure personnel safety. WCS collaborated with the United States Minerals Management System (now the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE)) to develop the well control training section of the standard known as 30 Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter II, Subchapter B, Part O – Well Control and Production Safety Training or “Subpart O”. Upon its enactment as a law in 1985, WCS began delivering comprehensive well control classes based on Subpart O standards and issuing certifications to students who successfully completed the training requirements.

WCS was one of the first commercial schools to offer the IADC WellCAP® certification program, a globally recognized well control accreditation program that develops curriculum guidelines for drilling and workover operations. In 2001, WCS developed the first IADC-approved, computer-based well control training program: System 21 Well Control Training. WCS is the only provider to offer IADC-accredited well control training through instructor-led, computer-based and web-based platforms. In addition, WCS holds accreditation through International Well Control Forum (IWCF) for rotary drilling operations. Currently, WCS is the only well control training provider to grant IACET-accredited continuing education units (CEUs) for its accredited training courses across all training platforms.

With the recent publication of Report 476 new requirements by the International Oil and Gas Producers Association (IOGP), WCS updated it curriculum and instructor requirements to reflect the changes outlined in the report. As a result of its providing relevant, up-to-date information, WCS maintains a reputation as the leader in delivering quality oil and gas training for onshore and offshore operations that focus on the unique requirements of operators, drillers, contractors and service companies.
